She was hired by Leaflink as the Expansion Lead!
Here is Devon’s story on how she found a path in the cannabis industry through Vangst.
It takes a special kind of business person to earn the nickname ‘Biz Dev Queen.’
With a track record that involves coast-to-coast cannabis experience over the past several years, Devon Richardson has more than lived up to her nickname.
A HUMBLE START
In college, she wrote a paper in support of medical cannabis as she looked on the progression of the industry. She was inspired to find her place in the nation’s fastest-growing industry and moved to Denver in 2014. Devon began to attend cannabis events in hopes of establishing professional connections, despite not yet having experience in the industry.
Her persistence paid off.
Devon was hired through Vangst as the Expansion Lead at Leaflink!
Devon worked in technology sales in New York City for about eight years prior to her foray into the cannabis industry.
Her experience gave her the proper tools to thrive at LeafLink, the wholesale marketplace and order management platform for cannabis brands, distributors, and retailers.
In her new role as Expansion Lead, Devon is responsible for introducing LeafLink into new cannabis markets and to ensure market adoption by wholesalers and retailers.
“Our goal is 100% market adoption in each state,” she said.
According to Devon, the biggest challenge in the cannabis wholesale marketplace is that there is not a centralized platform to help streamline orders between cultivators, manufacturers, and retailers. Most businesses are using poor forms of communication like texting, Instagram, and countless phone calls to coordinate wholesale orders, which cause significant errors and frustration.
“LeafLink streamlines this process, giving more time back to employees and alleviating most of that frustration,” she said.
HIRED THROUGH VANGST
Devon has worked in many capacities in the cannabis industry over the last three years. She has been recognized for her ability to quickly learn a market and then scale a service or product to meet its needs.
Her move to Denver from NYC did not include a game plan for starting a new career. But she worked hard to find her place in the cannabis industry.
“After numerous networking events, I met Karson [Humiston, Vangst’s founder and CEO] who has helped place me in great opportunities since 2015,” she said.
Devon loves to learn about the new markets in her new position. Her favorite part of the job is seeing how much happier wholesalers and retailers are after adopting the LeafLink platform.
